August 2020 Newsletter

Kairos of San Diego August Newsletter
Welcome friend, we hope and pray all is well with you. Our ministry is about sharing the Love of Christ with the inmates, their loved ones, and each other. In the absence of being able to share Christ with the inmates and their loved ones, we must be sharing God’s great gift with those around us. As a country we are divided on so many issues, but as a Christian body, we should focus on the love of Jesus Christ and what he would want us to do.

What’s Happening Now
Since volunteers are currently unable to enter the prison, we as a Kairos community are pleased to announce we have been conducting weekly Virtual Prayer and Share groupings amongst ourselves. If you are not actively participating in one of these groups, we highly encourage you to do so. They are a wonderful way to stay connected to the Kairos community and maintain positive spiritual momentum. You can signup and see the schedule of these groups HERE
Upcoming Kairos Events
Although all events at the prison are currently suspended. We are excited to announce that sometime within the next few months, we will be holding a “Kairos Lite.” This will be an event held outside the prison for the purpose of training, enriching, and recruiting volunteers. There will be more information about this in our next newsletter. Please keep the planning of this event in prayer, as it has great potential to bless our community in a multitude of ways!

Increased Prayer:
Due to the strong participation with our virtual Prayer & Share groups, we as a community are engaging more in prayer.
Letters of Encouragement:
The Chaplain has allowed us to write general letters of encouragement to the Kairos communities on each of the yards. What a wonderful way to inspire and maintain relationship! If you are interested in writing a letter of encouragement, please contact your Yard Leader or email Pastor Aaron at AaronGButtery@gmail.com.
Video Project:
We have been given permission by RJD and KPMI to produce a video on an “Introduction to Kairos Prayer & Share Groups,” which would be shown on institutional television at RJD, with the potential to be shown at institutions throughout our entire nation! After months of prayer, planning, filming, and editing, we are 90% complete. Please keep the finalizing of this project in prayer.

While we diligently remain in prayer for all of our 2020 Prayer Focus Points, each month we will select one that we want to be intentional as a community to pray for.

Seeking to use this gift of time well, let us focus and pray that God would use us to bring volunteers and leaders to the ministry“Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field” (Matt. 9:38).
Monthly Spiritual Reflection

Today, there are many ways to be a “friend.” Thanks to social media, people become friends with the click of mouse. But the Bible reminds us that, no matter how many friends we have, or how close we might feel to them, none of these relationships can compare to the relationship we can have with God. Ponder this:
God created you to be His friend.
He desires to have an intimate relationship with you.
This was the divine plan from the beginning.
Today, spend time with God. Read His Word, and listen to His voice. Fellowship with Him. You can be confident that He is with you every minute of this day, and every day.
Orientation/Clearances
The institution is not processing volunteer clearances at this time. While we understand many volunteer’s clearances are expiring, there is nothing we can do until the institution reopens their doors. Please keep this in prayer.
Kairos International Update
The Kairos Virtual Annual Conference General Session happened last month. If you missed it, you can view all of the workshop presentations HERE.
