Would you like to work on a KAIROS team? If you feel that God maybe calling on you to actively work in the prison ministry, then KAIROS is for you. Certainly prison ministry is not for everybody, however, for those called to this ministry it is one of the most rewarding, challenging, and spiritually uplifting ministries you will ever be involved in. Let us talk with you about it.
KAIROS Prison Ministry volunteers come from all walks and strata of life. They all share a desire to follow Christ’s admonition of Matthew 25:36, “I was in prison and you visited me.”
Volunteer with KAIROS Inside
If you have a strong desire to bring the message of Christ’s unconditional love to those who thirst for it behind prison walls, consider volunteering with us. KAIROS Inside volunteers minister to men incarcerated at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility. We are looking for men* who have completed a weekend experience of their own (Cursillo, Walk to Emmaus, Alternative Qualifying Weekend, KAIROS Graduate, or Eighth Table Observer) to spread the Gospel and help the incarcerated develop a relationship with God.
*Women are currently not allowed to participate on the KAIROS Inside weekend in prison.
Volunteer with KAIROS Outside
KAIROS Outside is a weekend retreat designed to support the female family members of men and women who are or have been incarcerated. We are currently looking for female volunteers who have completed a weekend experience of their own (Cursillo, Walk to Emmaus, Via do Cristo, KAIROS or KAIROS Outside) who can support other women through unconditional love and acceptance in a Christian setting.
Other Ways to Help
Prayer
The number one way to help in a KAIROS weekend is to pray. Please pray for the success of the weekend, the safety of the team, the hearts of the men (KAIROS Inside) or women (KAIROS Outside) we are trying to reach. We have a prayer clock that starts on Thursday evening (for the men) or Friday evening (for the women) and runs through Sunday afternoon. From the time the weekend retreat starts people are praying around the clock for the entire weekend.
Cookies
It takes 4,000 dozen (that is 48,000 each) homemade cookies to put on a KAIROS Inside weekend. That is a lot of cookies. Why so many? Each cookie is a physical form of prayer and shows the love of the community represented in every bite. The impact these cookies have is awesome. Contact us if you are interested making cookies and we will send you recipes and instructions for delivery.
Agape
Agape for the weekend can come in the form of posters, place mats, individual letters, etc. Contact us for more information on how you can get involved.
Agape from children seem to touch the hearts of these men the most. These make great projects for children’s Sunday School classes. Any agape should only have the sender’s first name and age (for the children). You may print out placemats on legal-size (8.5″ x 14″) paper and give them to children to color.
